Reading comprehension and clear, expressive written work is the basis of all academic work. English is as  complex and difficult to master as it is rich and versatile. Fortunately, our human brains are wired for language acquisition and communication. Reading and writing skills improve over time, a process that can be accelerated with guidance. I work with students to evaluate their natural strengths (often unrecognized) and then develop individualized strategies to help them build-up their written language proficiency, reading speed and comprehension.

Academic Skills

For most students, their academic success is directly related to the amount of organization and planning they apply to their work. Time management, careful attention to  assignment instructions, and test preparation are the basics. But note taking, efficient reading utilizing speed reading techniques, summarization and information management are all tools that successful students utilize to consistently produce excellent work. I begin every tutoring engagement by evaluating a student’s study habits and skills and then systematically work with them to enhance their use of these tools to improve their academic performance.
